Since 2012 I have had the privileged and honor of representing District 2, if you have lived here since then you know the direness that the area was in; starting from the wall on Pembroke Road to the way our streets used to look like, crime, prostitution on Federal Hwy. District 2 was the stepchild of the City. Through hard work perseverance and working together with County, State, local officials, and civic leaders we have been able to make a positive difference for our residents. Is the work done, are all our needs met? No they are not, and that is why I'm running for reelection to continue and expand on the improvements we've been able to achieve.

Some of what we have achieved

  • Spearheaded an effort to take funding from the Beach CRA (BCRA) and re-allocate it to low and moderate-income neighborhoods throughout the City. These funds will help residents rehabilitate their properties and provide an assistance program for first time homebuyers in these designated areas.
  • When the Margaritaville item came wanting approval to get MILLIONS of your tax dollars in incentives without a Citywide vote, I was the only Commissioner who voted against it!
  • When first elected in 2012, I identified the need for "Commission in the Community" to provide an open platform for residents to speak with commissioners in their own District during the evenings. Since then, we've held rotating town hall meetings with our residents on a quarterly schedule to improve communication and accessibility for everyone.
  • Worked with the police department to install surveillance cameras along US1 to stop prostitution as well as the Downtown to help fight and deter crime. Despite the usual obstacles in approving new projects, we now have sidewalks that we never had for our children to go to school safely.
  • We now have brand new cost-effective, and environmentally friendly LED streetlights to keep our streets brighter than ever before.
  • We're also installing new piping throughout our District to ensure improved water pressure, and more fire hydrants as needed for better fire protection in our neighborhoods.
  • I advocated and ensured that all of our streets are completely repaved after underground and infrastructure work— not simply patched up.
  • I supported funding to ensure that the City will fix the sidewalks at no expense to the residents. Before that, the City charged residents 50% of reparation costs to fix sidewalks with the 50/50 program.
  • Allocated funding and worked with the School Board to open McNicol Middle School's gym during summer breaks starting in 2013. This program has served thousands of teens in our community!
  • Reconstructed and repaved all alleyways in Liberia.
  • I was successful in allocating funding for the rehabilitation and installation of a water feature for Henry Graham park, after years of neglect and being in disrepair.
  • When the resort built on city-owned beachfront land Margaritaville sold in 2018, they refuse to admit they owed the City any money. After researching the sale and me pushing the issue, I'm happy to report that we just got a half of million dollars in transaction fees from the sale.

Since first being elected, I've made sure that your tax dollars go to improving our City. I have worked to improve transparency and safeguard your tax dollars by making common sense financial decisions based on the residents' best interest.
I am asking for your vote this November so I can continue the work that I have started. Together we can, and do make the difference!
